Appalachia is rich with culture, history and biodiversity. Declaring October “Appalachian Culture Month” will help to preserve these legacies, increase pride and connectivity, and create new opportunities for people to share their unique stories and knowledge. Though somewhat regionally specific, this celebration is fully inclusive, and only requires local recognition for engagement to foster positive change.
By joining this petition and inviting others, the people of Appalachia proudly embrace their heritage and community while creating many monumental opportunities. This action could serve to unify the region while inviting the rest of the world to experience the wild and enchanting charms of Appalachia.

Why October?
When the foliage peaks and the last major harvests of the year are being stored, we are all reminded of the beauty of the Appalachian mountains! Our connections to the soil, our greatest collective knowledge, and our appreciations for the interwoven Cultures are all heightened. This is a time when Appalachia should be celebrated! Although most could fairly debate many other months of the year for such a cause, there has been overwhelming support for the month of October — 31 days of Appalachia!
Inviting Others
Participation is crucial to the success of this mission. As valuable as your involvement is with the outcomes of this petition, that of your friend/neighbor/co-worker is equally important! Please consider who else might be interested in joining hands to make this a reality, and send them the link to Appalachian Culture Month!
