The Redbud Drive!
Plant SWVA Natives is supporting Radford in a big way by donating 100 Redbuds to the Redbud Festival! These saplings (2-3 feet tall) will be available to guests for a recommended donation of five dollars while all donations will support one of two local projects: the annual Radford Redbud Festival or the Sunset Park GROWing Initiatives (more info. below). Donors will be given the choice which community project they would like their money to be invested in after selecting their favorite Redbud.
THE Venue! Nesselrod on the New, overlooking the majestic New River, is one of the finest bed and breakfast, wedding and event venues around! In addition, owner, Jeff Caldwell, is really transforming the landscape, even planting a couple of Redbuds himself along the way! AND, to top it all off, the amphitheater space pictured below has been sculpted for the very best musical performances.
Festival Sponsors, Ballpark Signs produced the banner @ the entrance of Nesselrod!
Special thanks to Silver Sponsor, Keith Weltens and Ameriprise for supporting the inaugural Radford Redbud Festival! Your contributions to the local community are greatly appreciated!
What’re the Radford Redbuds?
A community of volunteers that work together (and separately) to help support the health of nature and Radford as a whole. Local community service and educational opportunities weave into aspects of art, food, music and culture among this group of community-oriented volunteers.
What’s Nursery Natives?
A nonprofit organization, located in Radford, which focuses primarily on the restoration of native ecosystems, food sources and community. Nursery Natives, the event organizer, is also a small-scale nursery which provides ecological landscaping services alongside Planetary Produce.
In addition to their other efforts, they are also spearheading an ambitious community project at Sunset Park (also in Radford), where native garden bed installations are already underway. In partnering on this project with the Radford Rotary Club, Radford Parks and Recreation, and the Beautification and Municipal Forest Commission, the future surely holds many unique possibilities for this collaborative team and the entire Radford community.
